Local Attractions

Finca Son Colom is about half an hour drive from Palma airport and the beautiful city of Palma.

Closer to home there is an abundance of attractions and amenities:

Felantix
Our local town, 5 mins by car from the house and 15 mins on foot. Mallorca’s third biggest town (pop 18,000), it dates from medieval times and has a lovely old church, narrow streets and bustling Sunday morning market. The main square is a nice place to have a drink and people watch in the evening.

It’s not the prettiest town on the island but it has an air of authenticity – very local and largely untouched by tourism. The feast of St Augustin at the end of August is packed with events, street dancing and rock concerts (at the municipal stadium).

Felanitx has a number of supermarkets and shops – so all your needs can be catered for within very easy reach. There are a couple of good restaurants as well – although the best places are in Porto Colom, Cala d’Or, Porto Petro and other local villages. Recommendations can be found at the house.

Very near Felanitx is a ‘must see’ attraction, the monastery of San Salvador. Located at the top of a mountain behind Felanitx, it provides stunning uninterrupted views of the whole of the south east of Mallorca. A windy road just outside Felanitx takes 20 minutes to the top. An experience not to be missed (especially at sunset with a cocktail in your hand).

A very efficient local taxi service is also available so you can wine and dine and not drive – details at the house.

Porto Colom
Beautiful old port town about 20 minutes’ drive from the house. Stunning scenery, lots of restaurants catering for all tastes. A number of beaches close to hand. Boat and water-sports hire.

Cala d’Or
A modern harbour resort where hundreds of yachts and power boats are moored. Busy in the peak periods but fun. Plenty of restaurants and bars and a bit of night life. Beach bars and restaurants close by. Boat and water-sports hire available.

Porto Petro
Lovely old port town – great views and good restaurants

Markets
Many towns and villages in the area have a weekly market selling everything from fruit and vegetables to antiques and bric-a-brac. The best of these include Santanyi (Wed & Sat), Campos (Sat), Felantix (Sun) and Sineu (Wed)

Other restaurants
In the villages and towns around Felanitx (all within 15-20 mins drive from the house) there are many highly rated restaurants. Details of all these can be found at the house.

Beaches
Within 20-30 minutes’ drive from the house there are numerous beautiful beaches dotted along the south and south-east coast of Mallorca. There is everything from rocky inlets to long sandy stretches. Hire a boat and drop anchor off one of the beaches then lunch and spend an afternoon lazing in the sun and swimming.

Golf
About 20 minutes’ drive from the house is Val d’Or golf club. A beautifully designed and maintained 18 hole course with stunning views of Porto Colom and the sea. One of 20 courses on the island.

Other sports
Just 5 minutes’ walk from the house are municipal tennis and padel courts.
